Open Letter to ALL Lysander Youth Hockey Association members

    Lysander Parents,

As we begin a new season of youth hockey we are proud to say that for many reasons, our organization is stronger than ever!

Lysander Youth Hockey Association has made significant personnel additions to our Board of Directors, whose additional skills will allow us to elevate our organization to the next level of dedicated service to our families and the surrounding communities. Let us tell you more about why this is such an exciting time for us.

"We would like to announce that LYHA is now the managing partner of the Greater Baldwinsville Ice Arenas..."

We would like to announce that LYHA is now the managing partner of the Greater Baldwinsville Ice Arenas, which includes the management and scheduling for ice time on both rinks, as well as all related events for the facility. LYHA is in this strong management partnership with the GBIA Board of Directors and the Town of Lysander. We are honored that the Town of Lysander’s Board supports and appreciates our vision for the rink’s future. LYHA’s vision includes both long and short-term business plans that account for the many ideas and concerns brought to our attention by parents in our organization. We want you to know that LYHA heard you!

"Our primary goal is to make the “new” GBIA rinks a facility that will be shared with pride by Lysander Youth Hockey..."

Our primary goal is to make the “new” GBIA rinks a facility that will be shared with pride by Lysander Youth Hockey as well as our many other rink-based organizations and partners like Syracuse Figure Skaters, and the high school hockey teams from the Baldwinsville and Liverpool central school districts. As we move forward with this initiative, you will hear more about future opportunities for parents from all of these organizations to work together as collaborative partners toward this change.

We also heard the concerns from many of you regarding proper ice times that were consistent in scheduling and appropriate for all age groups from mites to midgets. Our decision to manage GBIA was also inspired by our desire to offer our teams a schedule of consistent practice times similar to those followed by our organization for so many years in the past.  The significant investment of our LYHA personnel’s time and funding for GBIA’s management, have allowed us to secure for years to come our organization’s team practices, games, and tournament times that are age-appropriate and offered at a frequency consistent with USA Hockey Requirements (all LYHA ice slots from mites to midgets can be seen at the GBIA’s web site).

Beyond issues regarding the rinks, LYHA continues to subscribe to the approach that “player development comes from coaching excellence.” With the recent additions of new coaches to our already dedicated staff of continuing coaches, LYHA offers to its players one of the best staffs of head and assistant coaches at all levels of youth hockey. LYHA has also been in contact with USA Hockey regional personnel who will be coming to our rinks this fall to further train our organization’s coaches in the American Development Model (ADM) practice approach, which is designed for maximum player development across all age levels.  Knowing that the ADM approach is new and impacts many, LYHA will also offer presentations to interested parents so that they will be informed on this national-level development model impacting their children.

So as you can see, it has been a busy hockey summer for our LYHA. We have worked hard to insure that the future of our hockey programs, as well as figure skating instruction, continues to provide quality opportunities for our communities’ children at the Greater Baldwinsville Ice Arena. We are thrilled about this change and hope that you will partner with us during this exciting time. Feel free to stop and talk to any of our board members about LYHA’s plans or to ask any other questions you may have. Let’s all look forward to making great memories with our children at GBIA.

    See you at the rink!

    Michael Carni,

    LYHA Board President
